2016 GOP Debate Ready to Follow Up on Successful “Mad Max: Fury Road”

Fresh off of the commercial and critical success of Mad Max: Fury Road, the nation is eagerly anticipating tonight’s release of the next great post-apocalyptic thriller, 2016 Republican Presidential Debate presented by Fox Searchlight News at 9 PM EST.

The production has action fans salivating over the thought of a brutal slugfest featuring some of the hottest actors of the moment, including Donald Trump, Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz. In particular, the appearance of Trump, a renowned method actor in the vein of Daniel Day-Lewis, as the lead character after many years of phenomenal supporting roles has critics already labeling this a “cant-miss” event.

While the Academy will be watching for potential nominees and trophy winners, the interactive nature of the performance via widespread drinking games is expected to bring in a huge number of casual viewers who may not have tuned in otherwise.

Damn Hipsters Are Taking Down Traditional Media

Giant traditional media firms officially entered panic mode on Wednesday, as their abysmal earnings to start 2015 caused an equally abysmal reaction on Wall Street.

The rising number of cord-cutters, people who decide they may not want to pay for television channels they don’t want and abandon their cable subscriptions, is devastating media companies that just can’t figure out how to adjust quickly enough to the shifting market.

This includes the previously untouchable ESPN, which has reportedly been told to cut operating costs by $350 million dollars out of its 2016 and 2017 budgets by parent company Disney.

Executives have been kicking around various ideas to save their industry but as one homeless man put it, “Nothing seems as effective as operating like a cartel and shoveling shit down people’s throats at inflated costs.”

Jon Stewart Signs Off After 16 Years

Finally, tonight marks the end of one of the most impactful eras in American television history. Jon Stewart will be signing off from The Daily Show after 16 years of showing us that the patently absurd can oftentimes get us closer to the truth than fiction masquerading as reality.

To be sure, Stewart created as many foes as friends over his tenure and his insistence in labeling himself as a neutral, not a liberal, was a long-running joke to which he wouldn’t always accept.

Still, it may have been Stewart’s self-designation as a comedian – not a journalist -that saved him, and many of us, during an era when journalism abandoned its most fundamental principles in order to fear monger at the behest of plutocratic interests.

While Stewart’s exit will undoubtedly create a chasm in our national dialogue, he inspired and mentored enough disciples that we won’t soon forget his fundamental lesson: sometimes you need to laugh to keep from crying.
