Peasant Candidates Financially Compete with the “Big Dogs,” Anxiety Ensues

The fundraising numbers are in: The “outsider” candidates in the running for the presidential nomination (read: not immersed in the fucked up world of politics) are basically killing it. And giving the establishment-backed candidates anxiety.

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson leads the GOP wolfpack, raising $20 million in the past three months ending September 30; far ahead of Jeb Bush’s $11.4 million. As for the democrats, we’ve got Hillary Clinton with a whopping $30 million raised and Bernie Sanders coming in hot with $26 million. (Here’s the full list).

Why is this a big deal? Because the peasant candidates (read: normal) are now financially competitive with the big dogs who’ve spent months, or even years, schmoozing with the big-name donors and fundraisers. Check out the full break down here.

But your side business on DraftKings could be closing up shop. Nevada state regulators have officially ordered DraftKings and FanDuel to “stop operating immediately in the state until the companies and their employees receive state gambling licenses,” according to the New York Times.

It turns out that pay-to-play fantasy football competition is, in fact, gambling, and not a game of skill – and lawmakers are officially calling bullshit. Although this is a local issue, the takedown of Nevada, which is basically synonymous with “Come here and gamble!”, is bad news for DraftKings users across the country.

Obama Extends US Military Mission in Afghanistan

Yesterday, President Obama said “LOL just kidding” and announced he’s actually extending US troops’ relaxing getaway in Afghanistan until 2017. Woof. This is in stark contrast to 2008 Obama, who was sharply focused on removing US troops from the region and putting an end to the war ASAP.

What does this mean? In short, Afghanistan is still a hot mess – in fact, the Taliban has its largest presence in the region since post 9/11 2001. Obama and the US military basically realized that they needed to chill the F out with the departure deadlines in order to avoid another Iraq/ISIS situation.
