Coffee has become an important part of our culture, allowing millions of people worldwide to start their day off right and giving many others the energy to carry them through long days at work or school. But while most of us know that coffee can be expensive, few of us realize how expensive it is! Read on to learn how much it costs to drink coffee daily and how you can limit the cost of your daily cup o’ joe without sacrificing your daily pick-me-up!

Should I Stop Drinking Coffee Daily?

If you’re having trouble paying your bills because of your coffee habit, then it may be time to reconsider whether or not you should continue drinking coffee. There are many benefits to drinking coffee, but if it begins harming your finances, then it’s time to make some changes. The best way to budget for your favorite caffeinated beverage is by deciding how much money you want to spend on it each month and sticking with that amount no matter what. Planning ahead can help you stick to that budget. Maybe only get coffee from a shop one to two times a week and buy coffee to make at home for the other days. Try to skip coffee on the weekends. There are ways around overspending without having to quit!

The Cost of Your Morning Cup

Let’s say conservatively, your morning coffee costs $3.50, even though coffees in major cities are well above this price now. But if you buy one morning coffee seven days per week, that is $24.50. It’s not perfect math, but if you have 30 coffees in a month, that’s $105. If you have a coffee for every day of the year, that’s $1,277.50. Now, no one goes to the store and gets a coffee every day of the year, but it shows how repeating these expenditures without planning for it in your budget can add up!

Can I Drink Coffee Daily if I Make It At Home?

If you’re trying to save money, you might consider brewing your coffee at home. But does it cost less than going out for a cup? Most times, yes. After a one-time purchase of a coffee machine, your price per cup goes down significantly over time with the more you use it. So whether it’s a bag of ground coffee or K-cups, you can find more affordable ways to feed your caffeine addiction.

Get Rewards If You Can’t Quit

If you don’t want to quit going to a coffee shop, you need to find ways to make it cheaper. Going to grab a coffee could be an important part of your day. It could be the time you take to clear your head between tasks. It could be the time you go out and make some phone calls. Either way, you need to make it cheaper. If you get your coffee from a chain like Dunkin’ or Starbucks, you can download their rewards apps. By stockpiling points on their rewards apps, you can earn free coffee in the future for continuing your same habits.
