Everybody knows that stress can follow us around like a shadow. Whether it is trying to find a good job, a lovable partner, or a decent Taqueria that doesn’t charge extra for guacamole (c’mon! What’s that about!?), stress can sometimes seem unavoidable. And, to a certain extent, this is very true. One cannot entirely vanquish stress from their lives. Having said that, certain cities are more prone to stressed-out citizens than others. And, without further ado, here they are, in list form (from least stressful at 25 to most stressful at No. 1), for your perusing pleasure! I bet that you won’t be able to guess which city tops the list. It’s not the one that you think, that’s for sure!

How was this list established?
This fresh batch of intel comes to us from the number crunchers at the career search site known as Zippia. They have thoroughly pulled back the curtain on which parts of the country people report the highest levels of stress. Need reassurance that theirs was a thorough analysis? To figure out which locales earned a spot at the top of the list, the team looked at a half-dozen factors including commute times, work hours, population density, unemployment rate, the percentage of uninsured residents, and home price to income ratios, all based on info gathered in U.S. Census American Community Survey between 2013 and 2017. Specifically, they looked at the data for the 306 biggest cities in America (those with a population over 100,000) and then ranked and mapped those with the highest stress levels accordingly. So there!
Takeaway
Surprised that New York City didn’t top the list of most stressed-out cities in the country? I suspect that most people are equally shocked. However, the stats are in; Miami has topped the list in almost all categories and accounts. That’s followed by Jersey City (again, surprisingly), and then, uhhh, Newark (weird). East Los Angeles, California and Inglewood, California round out the number four and five spots. In fact, New York didn’t even place until far out number six! So, I guess that’s something to celebrate for all you New Yorkers out there. A bit hard to believe, but, the numbers are in, and New Yorkers are apparently living in breeze-town compared to Miamians (Miami-ites? Miami-ers?)
