The National Debt is due, meaning Congress must approve spending before America defaults. This is all part of the country’s political processes, and things always sort themselves out, one way or another. Except, this time around is different because it marks the first time in years that citizens are pushing for Republicans and Democrats to compromise and work together. After years of non-stop bickering and overly-politicized topics, Americans are looking for bipartisan compromise in Congress.
Polls are out
The 2010s were a decade marked by political division in America, and that division wasn’t limited to political settings. Americans all across the country rallied and protested any number of causes and issues. Cakes, hats, masks, textbooks, prejudices, and beliefs have become the center of one controversy. And a sizeable number of Americans were quick to support their own side on each of these arguments.
However, it seems there’s With expenses still rising for everyday citizens after a year of record inflation, Americans want to see Congress take action. A new series of new polls reveal how bad Americans believe our political divide is. According to Marist, 58% of Americans don’t believe we’ll see any bipartisanship collaboration in Congress over the next to years. On top of that, polls found 74% of Americans want to see compromise in Congress rather than standing for party lines.
Bipartisan solution
2022 saw Americans face record inflation, and its lingering effects are still showing up at the grocery store. The price of even staple household foods like eggs and butter is up more than 30% of what it was last year. Millions of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, and these price increases threaten their financial stability.
Rather than see Congress continue to bicker across the aisle, Americans want their elected officials to address the issue. Bipartisanship in Congress is the only way a long-term solution tailored to the American people’s needs gets done. The Federal Reserve is taking its own measures to combat inflation, but Congress can help provide solutions that will lessen the burden on citizens.
Congress has managed to work together in recent years. From 2018’s Natural Resources Management Act., to 2020’s COVID Rescue Bill, Congress has been able to pass bipartisan legislation. As Americans continue suffering at the checkout counter and the national debt comes due, it’s time for bipartisan leadership to reappear. Americans want to see both parties stop attacking each other and standing along party lines, so they can unite and lead the American people.
