One morning, Jim Curtis woke up and couldn’t walk anymore.
His condition began with smaller symptoms, which he ignored at the time, but once he couldn’t feel heat on his left leg, Curtis decided to go with his mother to get MRIs and spinal taps.
At the time, doctors couldn’t tell him anything more than his symptoms, so all Curtis knew was that lesions were wrapped around his spinal cord. This mystery prompted Curtis to go on a five-year journey for a diagnosis, sending him to hospitals all over the country.
Curtis’ condition finally progressed to the point where he couldn’t even stand. At this surreal moment, when Curtis could no longer walk, he decided he had to heal himself.
Without a diagnosis, Curtis began his journey toward recovery. Over 10 years, Curtis saw more than 200 health specialists, ranging from shaman to seasoned doctors. Each one of them became his “Stimulati,” inspiring his book.
Curtis, the current president of advertising, strategy and operations at Remedy Health Media, took his experiences and crafted The Stimulati Experience: 9 Skills for Getting Past Pain, Setbacks, and Trauma to Ignite Health and Happiness. The book follows his medical journey and shares the experiences and lessons that he accumulated over his 20-year battle with his chronic illness.
Curtis said he wrote this book to turn his pain and struggling into something meaningful. Curtis believes that sharing his experience is the best way that he can help other people, who are working through their own pain.
With help from his Stimulati, Curtis overcome the pain of his chronic illness, and he now feels better than ever.
