Millennials are finding success in their post-grad life by joining the manufacturing field. This line of work is no longer the traditional assembly line. Companies are using new technology and millennial innovation to expand their manufacturing. The key to a successful career for post-grad millennials just might be found in the manufacturing industry.

The work

Manufacturing has never been an easy process. It started during the Industrial Revolution. The original idea was to find ways of creating more products in less time. Assembly lines soon became popular for creating cars, textiles, machinery and more. Often, people in these factories would get hurt from the heavy equipment and get sick from the fumes. Today, the work is much more robotic and much safer. Businesses can now sell products manufactured in their plants online. Also, human-operated robotics help create the same rate and efficiency of production without many of the errors prevalent in the past. But perhaps the best news of all is that Millennials have begun to take an interest in manufacturing, and the result is making them millions.

Why is manufacturing appealing to millennials?

Millennials are flocking to manufacturing plants, and they are bringing with them the technology that the generation understands so well, and excels at. Because manufacturing jobs in the modern world increasingly involve engineering and robotics know-how, they are much more well-suited to, not to mention appealing to millennials. And since these plants have a shortage of workers, hiring millennials to implement and operate robotics might be these businesses’ best bet. With such fierce competition in products, many companies have realized that adapting new technologies is a way to stay current and to keep up. Worldwide, there has been a huge expansion in the manufacturing industry, and this boom is generating a large amount of revenue.

These skilled positions now require secondary degrees and certifications, which has changed the stigma surrounding manufacturing work. Some states are even encouraging students to get a technical education in high school and in college. For example, Kansas pays for tuition for high school students who enroll in a technical class at local colleges. The state even offers to pay for transportation to the colleges. These incentives are designed to inspire more millennial students to take an interest in robotics and their human-powered manufacturing. Due to increased interest in the manufacturing industry amongst millennials the U.S. could start to see more products being made in the country, effectively reversing the overwhelming trend of production outsourcing. Advanced manufacturing plants that embrace millennials and new technology are becoming more popular amongst job-seekers as a result of the financial success that they bring to those who are embracing the evolving field of manufacturing.

Takeaway

The manufacturing industry is changing. More millennials are making huge profits by applying their technological degrees to growth and evolution of the industry. Companies are also trying to appeal to millennials through their ongoing mission to grow technologically and increase their robotics presence. As more millennials embark upon manufacturing careers, outsourcing of production may slowly become a thing of the past.
