In a world filled with an overwhelming abundance of news sources, determining which ones are trustworthy and reliable can be a daunting task. However, a recent survey conducted by YouGov has shed light on America’s most trusted news sources, showcasing a surprising top spot that challenges our preconceived notions. So, let’s look at this survey’s findings and highlight the trusted news sources that have earned the most confidence from the American public.
The usual suspects
Unsurprisingly, the news operations of the big networks – NBC, CBS, and ABC – emerged as some of the most trusted news sources in the United States. These longstanding television networks have established a strong presence in American households, delivering news coverage that has garnered the public’s trust over several decades. These outlets have actually been around for so long that they all have their origin as radio stations before television came about.
In addition to television networks, several “print” outlets have also secured top spots as trusted news sources. The Wall Street Journal, renowned for its in-depth business and financial reporting, has earned the public’s confidence.
USA Today, a widely circulated national newspaper, is known for its concise and comprehensive news coverage across various topics. Forbes, revered for its coverage of business, finance, and entrepreneurship, is another trusted source in the United States. Additionally, Reuters and the Associated Press, respected wire services known for their factual and unbiased reporting, have gained the trust of the American public.
A surprising leader in trust
The most astonishing revelation from the YouGov survey is that the Weather Channel has emerged as the number one trusted news source in America. Owned in part by IBM, the Weather Channel’s dedication to delivering accurate and accessible weather forecasts has evidently resonated with the public.
While political news can sometimes be complex and divisive, weather updates provide a sense of clarity and reliability that may contribute to the Weather Channel’s position as the most trusted news source in the country.
Interestingly, two government-funded broadcasters also made their way into the list of trusted news sources. America’s Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), a non-profit media organization, has provided educational and informative programming to American audiences for decades.
PBS has cultivated a reputation for its balanced and reliable reporting. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), often dubbed the UK version of PBS, has also earned the trust of American viewers with its global news coverage and commitment to accuracy and impartiality.
What media preferences reveal about news-consumption trends
In an era where the credibility of news sources is constantly questioned, surveys like this YouGov one offer valuable insights into the American people’s preferred source(s) of information.
Established television networks such as NBC, CBS, and ABC, alongside prominent print outlets like The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Forbes, Reuters, and the Associated Press, continue to uphold their reputation for reliable news coverage. Whether that is a legacy trust or genuine confidence in their reliability is a discussion for another day.
The inclusion of government-funded broadcasters like PBS and the BBC highlights the importance of public service media in maintaining trustworthiness. Meanwhile, the Weather Channel’s position as the most trusted news source, according to the survey, reinforces the significance of accurate and straightforward reporting.
While social media and the 24-hour news cycle have drastically changed how we consume news, the Weather Channel’s straightforward content might hint at Americans growing tired of constant sensationalism.
As consumers of news, it’s crucial for us to remain discerning and critically evaluate the information we receive. Relying on trusted news sources that prioritize factual reporting and adhere to high journalistic standards, we can stay informed and make well-informed decisions in our daily lives.

The Weather Channel is by far more truthful than the MSM in its news but also is most biased when it com to Global Warming. In this matter they push the lefts narrative just a much as the MSM
